Colchester Zoo’s Action for the Wild aims to recreate the variety of animals that would have historically lived on the UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve. Our initial plan is to create a base of prey species, such as antelope and zebra. These help reduce grass levels by grazing on the reserve, but would also serve as a food source for eventual carnivore releases.
The cost to relocate species onto the reserve is immense. As an example, to release one white rhino cost in the region of £20,000. Please help by making a donation to this vital project.
