Giraffe Born on Reserve
In 2006, we released 10 giraffes onto the UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve. Since their release, we have had eight offspring born. Our last individual was born in June 2009. We hope to continue to breed this species on the reserve, and in time will look to split up our group onto our different farms and bring in new individuals to expand our bloodlines. |

Zebra Offspring
In 2006 and 2007, we released 38 zebras onto the UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve. Since their release, we have had numerous offspring born. We currently have between 60 and 70 adults on the reserve and this year along had around 10 foals born, bringing our total up to almost 80 individuals. This year we will also look to release more zebra onto the reserve. Zebra can be classed as a bulk grazer due to the amount of vegetation that they eat. We are in need of additional bulk grazers on the reserve in order to control our grass levels, so will be introducing more zebra in the near future

Blesbok Born on Reserve
In 2006, we released 41 blesbok onto the UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve. Since their release, the group split up, with some remaining on our release farm and others going onto our third farm called Vetrek. Our blesbok population now numbers 59 individuals, with 16 of these born this breeding season. |

Red Hartebeest Offspring
In 2006, we released 23 red hartebeest onto Gevonden Farm at UmPhafa. Our group now stands at 31 individuals, with 8 of these born this breeding season. The hartebeest are split up into different groups. A one-horned male is often seen by UmPhafa staff, as he is easily recognisable. The hartebeest are shy animals, so our game guards follow them regularly to get them used to people. |
